One Planet Sutton is a vision for a Sutton where people lead happy, healthy lives within a fair share of the Earth’s resources, and local businesses thrive. We call this One Planet Living. This vision is community and business-led, with support from voluntary and community groups, and managed in partnership by Sutton Council and Bioregional.

Currently, if everyone in the world lived as we do in Sutton, we would need three planets to support us. We need to reduce our impact – our ecological footprint – to a sustainable and globally fair level. Sutton Council has committed to becoming a one planet borough by 2025 and has signed up to a number of targets to make sure we get there. These cover things like reducing the borough’s carbon emissions, enhancing biodiversity in Sutton’s housing estates and increasing the number of people employed in the Green Economy.

To realise this ambition of a One Planet Sutton we will need to involve everyone in the borough. We have already made some great steps but there is much more to do. Progress on the One Planet Sutton programme is monitored on an annual basis and verified by the Council’s EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) auditor.
