Zero Waste Workshop

Jane Hersey and Harriet Simpson from BioRegional led this workshop. They started off by looking at the draft waste targets for Sutton:

To reduce municipal waste arisings by 30% by 2011

Recycling/ composting rate of 55% by 2009 (existing London Borough of Sutton target)

70% of waste by weight to be reclaimed recycled or composted by 2015

No more than 2% of waste sent to landfill by 2020

There was also a discussion on Sutton's current waste composition and recycling provision.

The aims of this workshop were to:
- come up with waste reduction strategies for Hackbridge
- discuss ways to boost the recycling and composting rate in Hackbridge
- look at strategies and technologies for dealing with residual waste (the part that can't be recycled or composted)

The following actions were identified by the participants.
